Last month we brought you a story on how online college class enrollment is increasing, but college isn’t the only place where online learning is being used. Keota High School Principal Lisa Brennaman says they use the Iowa Online Learning Program which is a lifeline for them. Brennaman says these are high school classes that are offered online by the Iowa Department of Education. They hire the teachers and then Keota works with the teachers and the kids get a good lesson in not only the curriculum but also the technology that is required once they get to the college level. Brennaman says the number of students participating in the online classes has really increased. Opportunities for students to Skype with teachers have opened a whole new world. She says the classes have become a part of the Keota Curriculum, the teachers do everything a normal teacher does but Keota doesn’t have to pay anything for them.
