The Washington Demons girls basketball team host their conference nemesis with a chance to position themselves for part of the conference crown. It will be a matchup of two ranked teams as the Demons are number 15 after the latest rankings came out yesterday evening and the Cheifs are 13, both teams were unranked last week. Demon Head Coach Phil Long says they felt like they had one taken from them earlier this season in Keokuk. The two teams were tied with a bout 50-seconds left when the Demons’ Johannah Vittetoe was fouled rebounding a missed free throw, the Cheifs were over 10 fouls so she was headed to the free throw line for a double bonus. However, when Vittetoe missed her first free throw, the Cheifs got the rebound and got to the other end of the court and drew a foul before the Demons coaches could protest. They ended up giving Vittetoe her second free throw which she made to put Washington up by one, but also awarded the Keokuk girl her two free throws which she made and gave the Cheifs the one point win. The loss is the only conference loss for Washington and the Demons come in on a seven game winning streak the Chiefs have won their last five. The two play in Washington tonight. Washington is 14-3, Keokuk is 13-3.
