The man Governor Terry Branstad wants to become Iowa’s next Department of Education Director has some controversial ideas on teacher pay. 39 year old Jason Glass will become the new director later this month if the State Senate approves him. Glass believes that teacher and administrator pay raises should be tied to test scores and annual evaluations rather than seniority and education level. Mid-Prairie Superintendent Mark Schneider says he knows that teachers might be concerned if their pay is based on a single test given once a year. Schneider says he would be interested in looking at any possibilities, including how Glass implemented the change in teacher pay in Colorado before, but says it will take a lot of discussion to make something happen.
