The Columbus Community school district approved several new board policies at their meeting on Monday that will affect both students and employees. The first has to do with the employee use of cell phones policy. Superintendent Rich Bridenstine says they aren’t restricting teachers from using cell phones but are making a policy where an employee wouldn’t be able to use a cell phones except in an emergency during their duties of teaching. He says during times of break and planning teachers would be able to use cell phones. The policy also says bus drivers shouldn’t be using a cell phone except in an emergency.

They also passed a policy having to do with use of time beyond the school day. Bridenstine says the policy is in regards to using Wednesdays and Sundays for school activities. The board agreed that there were occasions when it is necessary to use Wednesday and Sunday nights for school activities but they don’t want it to happen with any kind of frequency. When it does happen the board wants the superintendent to know about it and approve it.They also passed a policy having to do with use of time beyond the school day.
