The recent shooting in Arizona has focused people’s attention even more onto Iowa’s new gun law.  Keokuk County Sheriff Jeff Shipley says they haven’t run into a problem so far issuing gun permits, but he is getting responses to the gun law.  Shipley says part of the public is saying that you are arming respectable people to protect themselves against criminals, and you also have people unnerved about people being allowed to carry weapons.  Shipley says they should take a wait and see approach and see what problems pop up with the new gun law.

Jefferson County Sheriff Jerry Droz says the way he sees it there are a lot of holes in the new gun law with a lot of unanswered questions.  Droz says what he sees happening is someone taking a county to court saying they have the right to bear arms on county property.  He says he has received a lot of questions about the law not only from the public but from officers as well.
