The deadline to register for a prescribed fire workshop is today. The workshop will be held on Friday, February 4 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Louisa County Conservation Office. The workshop is geared toward landowners who are interested in using prescribed fire as a management tool for prairies and forests, although anyone 18 and older may attend. The one-day class will cover the benefits of fire, setting management goals and objectives, burn plans, fire weather and safety. Sessions will include the effects of burns, fire breaks, fire tools and ignition techniques. Pre-registration is required by contacting the Louisa County Conservation Office. The cost of the class is $10 and covers the cost of lunch and materials.
