During their Monday meeting the Kalona City Council had their second consideration of an ordinance that would deal with weapons in city owned buildings and grounds. City Clerk Karen Kristner says the council decided to rescind the first reading of the ordinance because the council decided they didn’t like the ordinance any more. The ordinance would have prohibited weapons in city owned public buildings and grounds. Mayor Jerry Kauffman says the councilors elected not to peruse it at this time because there was no way to enforce the ordinance. Councilor Steve Lafaurie adds that they did not feel there was a need to legislate regarding a perceived problem without any experience warranting a new ordinance. Mayor Kauffman says there not sure whether they will bring up the ordinance again.
