With the recent shootings in Arizona, law enforcement agencies across the country are considering their response to the event, if any. Keokuk County Sheriff Jeff Shipley says it still remains to be seen if they will change the way they cover elected officials.  Shipley says he is more worried about whether there will be money available to designate the personnel to protect them.  He says he believes political rhetoric had very little to do with the Arizona massacre, but more to do with a mentally disturbed young man.  Shipley says Iowa is not immune to violent incidents like the one in Arizona; he compares it to the murder of Coach Ed Thomas.  He says we can’t blame anyone else except for the person who committed the crime.  Shipley says whenever a political event is in the area they ramp up their presence in the area and work with city officials on a protection plan.
