Entities across Keokuk County recently received notices that tax revenue for the current fiscal year will be reduced because of an error. Keokuk County Auditor Christy Bates says in December of 2009 when she was working on the tax valuations she entered the gas and utility valuation twice in the computer. The shortfall comes from a duplication of funds that she says they will never receive. The shortfall affects the county, cities, Assessors office, schools and extension office. Bates says there was no over payment or misdirection of funds and the revenue that correlates with the duplication will not be received by the entities. The short falls range in the schools from a little over a thousand dollars at Kirkwood Community College to over eighty two thousand dollars at Sigourney Schools.
