An area high school basketball coach has won a prestigious national award, again. Mid-Prairie Boys Head Coach Don Showalter has been named Co-USA Basketball Developmental Coach of the Year Award. The award is given to a USA Basketball head coach that made significant impact on a team or individual at the developmental level. Showalter won the award last year, this year he actually shares it with Barbara Nelson who coaches at Wingate College. The two coaches led Team USA Under 17 boys and girls teams to FIBA Under 17 World Championships this past summer. Both teams went undefeated at the tournament. The award was established in 1996, and by winning it this year, Showalter becomes the first coach to receive the honor twice.
