For those who have made a New Year’s resolution to stop smoking, there is help available.  Iowa has a program called QuitLine Iowa.  Don McCormick with the Iowa Department of Public Health says QuitLine Iowa is a free service for all Iowa adults who want to stop smoking.  He says each January the program does see a spike in those asking about the service.  McCormick says the service does not use nicotine patches to help people quit, but they use counseling services instead.  He says the counseling services help you through the process of quitting.  McCormick says those who use this telephone service have been more successful in quitting than those who are part of a group.  If you would like more information regarding QuitLine Iowa, call  1-800-784-8669 (1-800-QUIT-NOW) or visit www.quitlineiowa.org.
