A Washington Demon coach has won a national award from the National Federation of High School Athletic Association. Demon Boys Track and Field Head Coach Steve Roth was nominated to receive the honor by the Iowa Association of Track Coaches. The National Federation of High School Athletic Association board looks at each state and recognizes a Coach of the Year for each state. In looking at nominees for the award they consider in addition to coaching, longevity, as well as involvement in other activities outside of your coaching position. Roth has not only coached the Demons boys for 34 seasons, but has organized youth track meets to help young kids start the sport early, organized fun runs for the area, and has helped community beautification by taking care of grass and flowers around the city. Roth was notified that he won award Friday.
