The Washington County Board of Supervisors held their weekly meeting yesterday morning and during the meeting a general obligation bid was announced. Jeff Heil of Northland Securities announced the bid award to Piper-Jaffray from Kansas City, Missouri. Piper-Jaffray was the lowest of eight bidders for the Washington County Secondary Roads Improvement Plan.
The funding for the $8 million project will come from the sale of bonds. Also during the meeting, discussion was held regarding the acquisition of the right-of-way project on 275th Street.
The Board of Supervisors has decided to not move forward with the project because of one of the land owners. Assistant Engineer Jacob Thorius says one of the land owners along 275th Street between Elm Avenue and Fir Avenue was asking for more per acre than the county’s scale and was also requesting less right-of-way taken.
This project will remain on the county’s five‑year plan, but no work will be done on the road. Two of the Supervisors agreed that work should be done on other projects in the county at this time.
