The Washington City Council met in special session last night to discuss the leasing of city land.  A public hearing was held regarding the leasing of 90 acres of farm ground located off of West 18th Street.  Five bid proposals were submitted to lease the land ranging $24,001 to over $31,000.

After reviewing the proposals, the council reached a unanimous decision to award the leasing of the ground to the Washington FFA.  During the bid process, it was noted the Washington FFA had been using the ground on a yearly lease with the city.

Vice President of the Washington FFA Chapter Austin Knupp says they have been using this parcel of land for approximately 10 years.  He says numerous people have gained experience and knowledge from the use of the land.

Knupp continues to say they use half of the land for corn and half for beans each year and rotate the crops.  The 3-year lease takes effect on Tuesday and the city has the right to end the lease if they need to use the land for future development.
