The Washington Demon girls basketball team has advanced in the postseason tournament with a win over Centerville. Hosting the Redettes on Saturday night, in a game heard on KCII, the Demons took the early lead and went into the second quarter up 12-9. In the first half Centerville had quite a bit of success with the pick and roll which allowed their post player Mallory Oden to score 17 in the first half. Washington led 30-29 at the break and adjusted in the second half holding Oden to five points in the second half. The Demons took a three point lead into the fourth and got it to a double digit lead late and then chewed some clock and hit key free throws to win 59-47.
For the Demons:
Sydney Greiner 19 points 4 three pointers
Jena Krebs 13 points
Lauren Vittetoe 9 points
Regan Enfield 7 points
Cassie Holland 7 points
The Demons now will face Davenport Assumption tomorrow in Tipton for the right to go to state. This is the second year in a row the Demons and Assumption meet in to go to state. Assumption won big last year.
The Lady Knights beat Keokuk 66-64 to advance. Assumption had a ten point lead with under two minutes to play but the Chiefs rallied and pulled within one. After a one for two trip at the line, Assumption had a two point lead and a fourteen footer to tie it with one second left missed giving Assumption the win. You’ll be able to hear tomorrow’s game right here on the one to count on KCII, we’ll be on the air at 6:45 with the pre-game show.
