The Washington Demon girls opened the postseason on the road in Solon last night, and played a game that came down to the last possession. On a game heard on KCII, Washington got down early by 10, but fought back to a three point difference. In the second quarter Solon got it back to a ten point lead and the difference was nine at halftime. In the second half the Demons clawed back in the third quarter and going into the fourth Solon was up 32-30.
In the fourth, with just under four minutes remaining, the Demons got a three from Sydney Greiner and then a steal on the inbound by Johanna Vittetoe and a bucket made it a one point game. Then with about two minutes remaining and Solon up 44-41 Freshman Stephanie Fishback hit a three to tie it up at 44.
Down the stretch the Demons got up by one and three different girls went to the line shooting the one and one and Regan Enfield, Lauren Vittetoe, and Sydney Greiner all hit. The Demons led by three with less than 30 seconds to go and the Spartans brought it down court but could not get a decent look, with two seconds left Kelsey Dirks put up an off balance long three that was no good and the Demons won 50-47. The Demons improve to 17-5 and will come home to Washington to host Centerville on Saturday. Centerville beat Fairfield 50-39. On the other side of the bracket Assumption beat Mount Pleasant 79-31. Keokuk beat Fort Madison 84-35. Keokuk will play Assumption Saturday in Washington in the first game of a doubleheader.
