Washington County residents have an opportunity for free tax preparation.  Nancy Adrian with the Washington County Extension says The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program and the Brighton Horizons Group are offering free assistance to Washington County residents who make less than $49,000 per year.  She says the VITA volunteers have completed an IRS training course and have received certification.

Adrian adds both Federal and state returns are able to be filed electronically.  VITA volunteers are available tomorrow and February 19th from 1:30 to 5:30 pm.

She says for those who need help with basic income tax returns should call for an appointment.  Adrian mentions when calling for an appointment to call between 8:00 and 9:00 in the morning or between 4:00 and 5:00 in the afternoon since the phone lines have been busy throughout the day.
