Last week’s blizzard has cost the county thousands of dollars. Washington County Engineer David Patterson says when we receive an average snow storm they spend about $10,000 on overtime and salt costs to clear the roads. He says with last week’s storm, the amount spent was approximately three to four times more than normal.
Patterson says the road crews worked extra hours to get the roads open as fast as they could plus widen the driving lanes to make it easier for school buses. He notes they are still working to clear snow from the gravel roads in the area.
