With temperatures rising into the 40’s over the weekend and possibly into the 50’s by the end of next week, much of the snow that is blanketing southeastern Iowa will likely disappear into our creeks and rivers.  But will that increase the risk of flooding?  Jacob Beitlich with the National Weather Service in Johnston doesn’t believe so.

Beitlich says that temperatures will likely fall below freezing during the overnight hours next week, slowing the melting process so it is unlikely for any significant flooding to occur.  Longer term predictions for spring are for a slightly greater risk of flooding than normal.
