The Kalona City Council met in the Kalona Community Center this week and during their meeting, an update was heard on the downtown revitalization project. City Clerk Karen Christner says the project is currently on hold because of the winter and work will resume in the spring. The council also received a presentation from representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
Christner says city officials heard about the National Flood Insurance Program which makes the process easier for anyone living in a flood plain to obtain flood insurance. She says council members took no action regarding this program at this time, but FEMA and DNR officials will come back to a future city council meeting regarding the insurance program.
