The city of Wapello is giving staff at city hall more time to process paperwork. City Clerk Celia Drayfahl says a proposal was presented during Thursday evening’s city council meeting by Mayor Ron Durbin. She says the mayor proposed to the council of closing City Hall every Wednesday afternoon to allow the staff to work on required state and other government mandated paperwork. Drayfahl says Council member Shawn Maine suggested the city offices be closed to the public for one hour each morning. The council approved the request of opening one hour later each day during their Thursday evening meeting. Drayfahl notes all city staff will still be reporting to work at 8:30 and will open the office to the public at 9:30 and will stay open until 5:00 each day. Drayfahl says the new hours will start on Monday, February 14th for a two month trial basis. She says the council will look at either continuing the new hours or returning to the old schedule after the trial period.
