The earthquake and tsunami in Japan has caused many organizations to receive monetary donations from all over the world yet people try to take advantage of people’s generosity.  Washington Chamber Executive Director Tim Coffey says his office can’t recommend a specific charity.  He says they will offer the advice of giving to a charity with which you are more familiar.

Coffey says you can go international with well-known groups if you choose.  He says asking questions is a good way to find out more about where any possible donation might go.  Coffey notes, if you are satisfied with the response or you are uncomfortable, then don’t give to them.
