Washington City Council has agreed to the purchase of a property on East Washington Street. During their meeting last night, a public hearing was held to purchase the property located at 303 East Washington Street. This property is immediately east of City Hall and a purchase price for the property is $52,000.
The city’s intention of purchasing the lot is to increase the space available for parking at City Hall and for future expansion of the Fire Department. The purchase will not come out of the city’s general fund or property taxes.
The funds will be coming from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation and the Volunteer Fire Department has obligated to donate $10,000 from their pancake fundraising. The council decided four to one in favor of purchasing the property.
Also during their meeting a new bid submission date was set for the city’s Wastewater Treatment Facility Improvement Project. The council has agreed that all bids are due to City Hall by 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 16th.
The bids will be awarded during their regular meeting that evening. The next city council meeting will be Wednesday at 6:00 in the old public library to hold a public hearing regarding the fiscal year 2012 budget.
