The Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau is in danger of losing funding if Governor Terry Branstad’s budget proposal passes. The Governor’s budget is calling for a 6% cut on top of a $150 thousand allocation the training bureau receives each year. The Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau is dedicated to the improvement of Iowa’s Fire Service and protection of the general public through legislation, better training, minimum standards for apparatus and equipment, fire prevention, public relations and information. Washington Fire Chief Tom Wide says the funding provides training for state training the state provides. He says the cutting of the funds will also impact the amount he receives to supplement his budget to provide training. Chief Wide says he is hoping the cuts do not end up on the final budget.
