The girls state basketball champions were determined this past weekend. In Class 3A, well the team that eliminated the Washington Demons one game away from state, ended up winning the title. Davenport Assumption beat defending 2A champion Mount Vernon 50-39. Mount Vernon moved up to 3A this season. In the 4A game, it was close for a while but Des Moines East broke away in the fourth to beat Iowa City West 52-40.
The 1A and 2A champions were decided Friday. In 1A, Martensdale-St Mary’s beat Ar-We-Va 40-23. In the 2A title game, OA-BCIG was a winner over Estherville-Lincoln Central 46-35.
