Iowa Mennonite School boys basketball team will begin state tournament play today. IMS takes on Guthrie Center. Guthrie Center beat Grandview Park Baptist out of Des Moines 51-46. IMS is 24-1 on the season while Guthrie Center is 19-7. IMS Head Coach Dwight Gingerich says their opponent is a team that likes to slow things down and play a paient half court game. He says it’s not unusual to see them make around 15 passes on a possesion eating up around 45-seconds of clock. Gingerich also points out Guthrie Center doesn’t normally turn the ball over, he says against one team that pressured them, Guthrie Center only commited one turnover in the half. Gingerich feels with their opponent wanting to play a slow game, and IMS typically wanting to play at a faster tempo, it will be key to see who will dictate. IMS has been to state in five of the last seven years. IMS and Guthrie Center tipping it off at 2-o’ clock this afternoon. Two o’ clock is the scheduled time, of course tournaments can be unpredictable, one game can throw off start times, but you’ll be able to hear the game right here on the one to count on KCII, we’ll be on the air 15-minutes before tipoff with the pregame show.
