The Washington Public Library Foundation along with Humanities Iowa presented two lectures on Native American art and culture this past weekend.  Library Director Patrick Finney says it was a successful event.  He says over 100 people came to one or both presentations by Dr. Leona Zastrow.

Dr. Zastrow is an educator and appraiser from Santa Fe, New Mexico who spent two days working with the items owned by the library.  The collection came to the library in 1964 as a donation from Emily Powis Simpson-Atmore.

Dr. Zastrow says most of the collection is from the Apache and Hopi Tribes from the American Southwest.  Finney says Dr. Zastrow is continuing to evaluate the library’s collection and he is expecting to know more about it by the end of the month.
