Local Meat Lockers Good Source for Local Food

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey says a great source of home grown food is through our local meat lockers.  He notes Iowa currently has 164 inspected establishments serving the state.  There are 3 locations in Washington County.  Brandon Statler, owner of Boyd’s Meats in Washington says between 85 to 90% of his product is local meat.

Doug Havel, owner of Bud’s Custom Meats in Riverside says he sells 90% local meat to customers.  Havel says many of his customers are looking for locally raised product.  Secretary Northey says buying from local markets is a great way to get safe, high-quality meat while supporting your local community.
