A Southeast Conference school is back in the boys semifinals at the state basketball tournament. Mount Pleasant made it their last season and lost to Pella. With everyone returning this season, the Panthers have reached the semifinals again. Last night Mount Pleasant beat MOC-Floyd Valley 47-41 to get to the semis. Now they take on the defending state champs, Sioux City Bishop Heelan this evening. Both teams have two losses on the season. On the other side of the bracket, unbeaten Waverly-Shell Rock will face Norwalk. Norwalk has three losses on the season.

Two area basketball coaches will be in Des Moines tomorrow to receive recognition for hitting win milestones. Every season at halftime in one of the championship games coaches who hit 300 wins and every hundred after that are recognized. This season Lone Tree’s Tom Squires got career win 300. Also former Washington Demon and current Sigourney Head Coach Dave Tremmel got career win 500.
