A workshop on attracting purple martins will be held at the CAM Iowa Clothing Center in Kalona tomorrow and organizer Jim Walters says this workshop is attended by more than 200 people each year.   He says the workshop talks about the nesting and habits of this swallow that returns to Iowa each year.  Walters says the morning sessions will include a program on invasive species in Iowa, a progress update on the second Iowa Breeding Bird Atlas, and a program on creative habitat projects for various bird species.

The afternoon program will feature a very experienced martin “landlord” who will speak on what houses work best, where and when to put them up, and on controlling predators and competitors.   Walters notes there will be a short demonstration of doing nest changes followed by a panel of veteran martin landlords who will answer questions from the audience.

The workshop starts at 9:10 tomorrow morning and the registration fee is $2.00. For more information, contact Jim Walters at (319) 466-1134.
