A bill in the state legislature regarding voter registration is getting the support of the local auditor’s office.

House File 519 would amend Iowa Code to let voter registration for primary elections close 11 days before the primary instead of 10.  Washington County Auditor Bill Fredrick says being open for two Saturday’s before the primary resulted in having to pay overtime which wasn’t cost effective.  He says voters are now allowed to register at their polling site on Election Day and in person at the time of absentee voting, cutting the need for the extra office hours.
