The Washington City Council held a special session last night to discuss the fiscal year 2012 budget.  A public hearing was held as part of the meeting as well.  The council also held discussion regarding the Engineering line item in the budget before voting.

They talked about keeping the staff as full-time, reducing the staff to part-time or using engineering services through contractors.  After lengthy discussion, they agreed to talk further with the Finance and Personnel Committees and will present a recommendation on this line item at a later Council meeting.

The Council unanimously approved the budget in its current form stating the status of the Engineering line item will make the bottom line of the budget lower if it should be eliminated.  The next City Council meeting will be Wednesday at 6:00 in the old public library.
