Washington County Hospital and Clinics (WCHC) has generated more than 350 jobs and over $17 million to the County’s economy. According to the latest study by the Iowa Hospital Association, the employees from WCHC spend more than $3 million on retail sales and contribute almost $200,000 in state sales revenue. Washington County Hospital and Clinics CEO Don Patterson says since they are “Washington’s only hospital and one of the largest employers, we understand the health and wellness of our communities is measured in different ways.”
The study found that Iowa hospitals directly employ over 70,000 people and create another 67,000 jobs outside the hospital sector. The study was compiled from data submitted from hospitals on the American Hospital Association’s Annual Survey of Hospitals. Patterson adds these “numbers mentioned reaches into the heart of the impact” the hospital “has on the local community.”
