Water Quality Standards Meeting Being Held

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is holding a series of public meetings to gather input from citizens regarding proposed criteria for evaluating Iowa lakes used for swimming throughout the state this month.  Chuck Corell, spokesperson with the Iowa DNR says the proposed standards will measure the transparency of water and recommend maintaining water clarity of a little more than 3 feet in at least 75% of the measurements.  Corell says water clarity is a safety issue on lakes where swimming is promoted as a recreational activity.  The public hearing is tomorrow at 4:00 in the State Bank Room at the Washington Public Library.
