The Washington County Board of Supervisors reviewed bids for County secondary roads improvement projects with the County Engineer during their meeting yesterday.  County Engineer David Patterson says four bids were received for about six miles of work on Spruce Avenue and Underwood Avenue.  He says the estimate for the project was just under $1 million and the winning bid was from DeLong Construction of a little over $800,000.  Patterson adds the work will begin on the project on June 1st.

He says they also received a request from the 411th Engineer Company with the US Army Reserve based in Iowa City.  Patterson notes they specifically build horizontal infrastructure, or roads.  He says they will be partnering with the county to work on road projects.

Patterson says the county will provide the materials and fuel and the Reserve Unit will provide the equipment and labor.  He says these projects will most likely start in the fall.

The Supervisors also officially canvassed last Tuesday’s Washington Community School District’s election results.  Those results show the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy passing with 59% of the vote in favor of the measure.
