A Columbus school record set 30 years ago, fell this week at the Mediapolis meet. Sophomore Heaven Chandler jumped 18′ 1” to win the event at Mepo. Columbus Head Coach Jeff Gilmore says Chandler’s jump was good enough to break the Columbus girls long jump record of 17′ 9” set by Theresa Gipple back in 1981. Chandler is the defending 2A state champion in the long jump. She jumped 17′ 1” to win the title and also finished third in the 100 meter dash. Gilmore feels her 18′ jump should be good enough to get her to Drake.
