The general signup period for the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) which began March 14th is about to end. US Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack says this is the second year for this general signup offered by the USDA. He says support for CRP has grown because of a strong backing from farmers, ranchers, conservationists, hunters, fishermen and other outdoor sports enthusiasts.
Secretary Vilsack says not only has CRP contributed to the national effort to improve water and air quality, it has preserved habitat for wildlife and prevented soil erosion by protecting the most sensitive areas including those prone to flash flooding and runoff. The signup period ends tomorrow and for more information, click here.
