Under proposed legislative redistricting, area state lawmakers could be seeing changes in their district makeup, with the biggest change having to do with Keokuk County. The Legislative Services Agency’s proposed districts were delivered to state and congressional officials. Redistricting is done after each census to adjust representation based on fresh population numbers.
State Representative Jarad Klein says he is losing part of Washington County, Jefferson and Johnson Counties and gaining all of Keokuk County. He would be representing about the same number of people.
Senator Sandy Greiner says she would be gaining all of Keokuk County and western Johnson County, but losing all of Jefferson and Van Buren Counties. She says at this point, the new maps are proposed and she suspects there could be changes.
Congressman Dave Loebsack says he is gaining an additional county in southeast Iowa. He says no matter what the final maps end up being, he says he will do what he can to represent the people in this part of the state.
