The State Attorney General’s office has determined law enforcement were justified in using deadly force to bring a stand off in Sigourney to an end. Deputy Attorney General Thomas Miller says they have closed their investigation and found Iowa State Patrol Tactical Unit was justified in using deadly force in the death of 53 year old Jeff Krier. According to Miller, 39 year old Keokuk County Deputy Eric Stein was killed early in the stand off while he was using his SUV as cover.

Miller says a round went through a back passenger window and hit him in the head on the other side killing him instantly. An autopsy investigation shows Krier had 23 entry wounds.

The stand off happened last week just outside of Sigourney while sheriff officials were investigating threats Krier made to hospital staff.
