Washington County Public Health is celebrating National Public Health Week this week.  Registered Nurse Lynn Fisher with Washington County Public Health says this year they have a theme of “Safety is no Accident:  Live Injury Free.”  She says the purposes of this week are to highlight public health achievements and to raise awareness of issues that are important to improving the public’s health.

Fisher adds they are focusing on bicycle helmets and bicycle safety, home safety by using smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and using seat belts.  She notes Iowa has more than 250,000 emergency room visits in a year related to injuries.

Fisher adds that averages to more than 2,000 a month.  To see different events going on this week, look at this story on kciiradio.com and listen to today’s Washington Page.
