The process of passport applications are changing starting the first of the month.  Washington County Recorder Jo Greiner says they will only accept passport applications by appointment only.  She says any dual function office have to meet new national guidelines.

A dual function office is one that issues both birth certificates and passports.  Greiner says the same person can no longer issue both a birth certificate and a passport.

She says passport applications will now be issued in a separate office and by appointment only.  Greiner adds the office is located across from the Recorder’s Office in the storeroom where license plates used to be issued.

She notes the cost for a passport has not changed and the County receives $25 from every passport application.  Greiner says last year they processed 280 passport applications which brought in $6700 to the County.
