A public hearing was held earlier this week on amending Washington’s Zoning Ordinance.  Steve Donnelly, Building and Zoning Official for Washington says a public hearing was held to discuss amending the City’s Zoning Ordinance regarding ground level residences within one block of the square.  This change was requested by Gerald Franzen whose brother wants to have an electrician’s shop in the front part of a building on North Marion Avenue with a residence in the back.

Tim Coffey with the Washington Chamber of Commerce stated that changing a dwelling to residential can mean a difference in taxes that are assessed on the property.  The motion for changing the ordinance was not approved by the City Planning and Zoning Commission.
