Washington County’s unemployment rate went down in March according to data released from the Iowa Workforce Development. Washington County has over 12,000 people in the workforce up from February. Washington County’s unemployment rate is 6.2% down .3% and unemployment rates averaged one third of a percent lower in all of southeast Iowa.
The lowest decrease was in neighboring Louisa County while Jefferson County’s unemployment rate edged up slightly to 8.2%. The statewide estimate of those receiving benefits went up by 1000 people.
