Road construction in Washington County will be causing delays this week.  Washington County Engineer David Patterson says Wayland Road will be closed to through traffic south of Washington.  He says the closure goes from Coppock Road to Fern Cliff Road for the construction of paved shoulders.

Patterson notes the signed detour route will be Coppock Road and this project is being funded by the Federal “High Risk Rural Roads” program.  He adds the county is receiving $500,000 with this program and they are receiving a $250,000 grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation as well to go toward this project.

Patterson says the paving project was delayed one week because of weather and begins Wednesday.  The work should be completed in approximately three to four weeks depending on the weather.  For more information, contact the County Engineer’s office.
