Kalona’s annual summer festival, the Kalona Fun Days, has undergone a makeover in the last year.The popular weekend event, usually held in June, is being organized by the Kalona Chamber of Commerce this year. Bobbi Peiffer is one of the organizers of the event. She says this is the first year the Chamber has put on the Fun Days, and a few changes in the weekend’s itinerary have been made. One new event you’ll see this year is a barbeque cook-off, which Peiffer says she hopes becomes an annual occurrence during the festival.
The cook-off replaces events like the Perfect Pickle Contest that were held in previous years. The Kalona Fun Days are June 17th and 18th in downtown Kalona.
