A local organization is hopeful to gain even more members that are seeking to help the community. The Community Chest of Washington is a group that provides funding for nonprofit organizations. Roberta Lampkin is the secretary and treasurer of the Community Chest.
She says it acts much like the United Way does in a larger city. The Community Chest has been helping nonprofits since 1947, and currently supports 13 different area organizations, such as Lending Hands Adult Day Services and the Washington YMCA.
However, Lampkin says, they are looking to welcome additional groups for next year’s campaign, which starts in October. Nonprofits looking for more information can contact her, and she will send out the necessary application forms.
Lampkin adds all of the current members will automatically receive those forms, and potential members have until August to apply.
