Corn Almost All in the Ground, Department of Agriculture Says

A report by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Iowa Field Office says 92 percent of corn is now in the ground in the state of Iowa. The department reports 94 percent of corn has been planted in the southeast region, despite cool spring temperatures and above average precipitation.
Just recently Iowa farmers were concerned about lower yields and less production in 2011, but Johnson County Extension Agronomist Jim Fawcett says the warm-up the region saw last week provided enough time for farmers to catch up on planting.
He added soybean planting could still see a few delays, but last week’s spike in temperatures also aided soybean farmers as well. The region has seen 59 percent of soybeans planted so far, which is seven percent more than last year at this time.
