The Washington Demon track and field teams have their state qualifying meet today. On the boys side it’s called districts, on the girls side it’s called regionals. It’s a little different this year. The state will take twenty-four in each event. The first place finishers are guaranteed a spot and then a benchmark will be identified and those within will be guaranteed a trip to state. Heading in Demon Boys Head Coach Steve Roth says they’ll see very strong competition with last year’s state champs in 2A Solon now in 3A, Clear Creek Amana, and Mount Pleasant. He feels the 4×1, 4×2, Kyle Cox in the 1600 and Jake Redlinger in the high jump have good chances. As for the girls, Head Coach Howard Bean says 4×8, 4×4, distance and sprint medley and shuttle hurdle has a good shot . He also says some of the field events including Jenna Krebs in the shot and discus and Sammy Ellingson in the high jump have a good chance. The Demons will be running at Mount Pleasant.

Mid-Prairie will be running at Monticello, Columbus at Eddyville-Blakesburg, the 1A schools will run at WACO except for Sigourney and Keota who go to Brooklyn.
