The Washington Demons girls track and field team could have eight state qualifiers, while the boys could have nine. It’s kind of a wait and see this year because only the first place finishers are guaranteed a spot. After that a provisional list is formulated with the second and third finishers, the state identifies the time or distance of the 12th place in each event and anyone outside of the list that did better than that 12th place benchmark is added to the list and then the person at the bottom is bumped.
Last night in Mount Pleasant on the boys side, Solon won the district title with 133 points, Mount Pleasant 2nd 132, Clear Creek Amana third 99, Fairfield fourth 88, and Washington fifth 81. Head Coach Steve Roth says he has two second place finishes that he feels are in and several on the bubble but they could end up with as many as nine qualifiers.
