As the weather warms up, fishing becomes a popular activity in Washington County. The Iowa Department of Transportation wants to remind anglers fishing off roadways or railroad bridges is illegal, and also very unsafe.  It is illegal to fish on the side of public roads and off street bridges, and you could be charged with illegal trespassing if fishing off a railroad track or bridge.

The department urges those who do want to enjoy fishing to do so at public access points to Iowa’s rivers, streams, and lakes.  Such access points in our area can be found at Lake Darling State Park in Washington County, Lake Belva Deer in Keokuk County, and Lake Odessa in Louisa County.
